Sweetpea & Willow Celebrate 10 Years!

Sweetpea and Willow

Most of you who have a love of interiors will be familiar with the brand Sweetpea & Willow. The beautiful, contemporary, french-inspired homewares and furniture boutique that started in London in 2006. S&W started out delivering something to the market that was different. You could shop their store like a capsule wardrobe collection. That is: a collection that offers different styles that work in harmony with one another.

Most people who will remember S&W from their early days will remember a collection dominated by neutral fabrics and tones- now though, their ever-expanding collection has some major colour injection throughout a number of their items. You can see from my round-up of my fave items above, that there are some fun, colourful pieces on offer now that can sit side-by-side their more traditional french items without deviating too far from the core collection.

And, in my point of view, the Laurent Bed (top image above) deserves special mention. I recently used it for a photoshoot and the quality is higher than high, the deep buttoning is incredibly beautiful and the winged sides of the headboard and strong edges lends itself to being equal parts masculine and feminine. Perfect for a couple’s bedroom depending on the accessories that you mix with it.

I have interviewed the team at Sweetpea & Willow below so you can find out a bit more behind the success of this 10 year old luxury brand!

1.     It’s your 10 year anniversary, how did the company start?

With a little dream and a lot of might, we knew that we loved interiors, and we wanted to inspire everyone to create their dream home.  So we travelled far and wide and created a place where we combined everything we cherish from furniture, lighting and cushions, to beds and armoires in one place ready for everyone to enjoy. And that was how Sweetpea & Willow was born.

2.     How would you describe the essence of your brand?

Our brand encapsulates elegant interiors and passion. We know that no two people are the same, and no two homes are the same; so we go the extra mile to make sure that the piece isn’t just something you’re using to decorate your home with, but an extension of who you are. Our company strapline is “Love The Way You Live”

3.     What have been the highlights of your journey?

Over the past couple of years, we have seen the launch of our Handmade in London collection. A collection of sofas, beds and upholstered furniture that are designed by us and made by us here in the capital. We’ve also won some lovely awards over the last few years including, winner of Sheerluxe Homes and Gardens category, Cool brands and the Small online retailer of the year in 2015 to name a few.

4.     Have you ever had any unusual requests from customers?

Our customers have the luxury to customise their sofas or beds, but the most interesting one we had was an order for a special Lansdowne Sofa for a famous rock star [no names]. The base and seat cushions were in a Designers Guild Nabucco – Fuchsia Velvet fabrics. The back cushions where in Moyka- Turquoise velvet which is colourful stripe pattern. It sounds slightly crazy, but, trust us when we say it worked, it was utterly gorgeous and they were delighted with the end product!

5.     When choosing furniture- where is the best place to start?

The best place to start is by assessing your space; it’s so easy to fall in love with a piece of furniture and then find out it may be too big or small for your room. Understanding your space is fundamental and the foundation of the look you are planning to create.

6.     What is your most popular product or range that you sell?

The Hatfield Sofa collection– It has luscious deep seating, hand fixed chrome studding and dark mahogany feet with a choice of brass or chrome ends. The piece is luxury excellence so we are not surprised by its popularity. You can choose from our 70 handpicked fabrics or get creative and choose your own fabric of choice.

7.     What upcoming trends do you think will appear in stores?

For the rest of SS16 we are seeing inspiration from the 19th Century art movement. Painterly florals will adorn walls, carpets and cushions and we are seeing soft pinks and muted tones. Copper accessories have been a strong theme and compliment the pinks wonderfully. As we run into AW16 we predict you will see lots of navy, green and deep rich mustard colours on walls and furniture. Neutrals will also continue to be a big hit. Concrete will be a material you will see appear more in the home especially kitchens and furniture.

Set Up An Outdoor Cinema This Summer

One of the things I am most looking forward to this summer is the outdoor cinema we are going to set up for our Annual Garden Party. (NB This makes our garden sound huge but it is actually your standard {tiny} London garden. It just so happens that in the summer our plants are in full bloom and it’s the nicest time to show it off!) We have been having this party for years and it coincides with my partner’s birthday so we thought this year we would make it extra special by setting up an outdoor cinema to watch late into the evening.
